SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT RELATED TO THE LICENSE RENEWAL OF BEAVER VALLEY POWER STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2
Dear Mr. Sena :
By letter dated August 27, 2007, FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company submitted, for U.S.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) review, an application to renew the Beaver Valley Power Station, Units 1 and 2, operating licenses for up to an additional 20 years. The license renewal application (LRA) was submitted pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 54, Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants. The staff determined that the LRA was complete and acceptable for docketing on October 26, 2007. Since that time, the staff has reviewed the Beaver Valley Power Station, Units 1 and 2 LRA, issued requests for additional information (RAIs), reviewed the applicant's responses to the staff's RAIs, developed a safety evaluation report (SER) with open items dated January 9, 2009, and reviewed the applicant's comments on this SER. On the basis of this review, the staff has developed the enclosed SER to document its findings associated with the safety review of the LRA and supporting documentation for the Beaver Valley Power Station, Units 1 and 2.
