SUBJECT:

REMOVAL OF COMPONENTS FROM THE INTERIOR OF THE GENERAL ELECTRIC TEST REACTOR (DOCKET NO. 50-70, LICENSE NO. TR 1)

Dear Mr. Krause:

I am responding to Mr. David Turners email, dated March 10, 2009, regarding the removal of components from the interior of the General Electric Test Reactor (GETR) containment building (ADAMS Accession No. ML090900060). In the email, Mr. Turner notifies the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) that General Electric - Hitachi (GE-H) plans to remove piping, pumps, valves, control systems, some walkways and non-structural shielding from the interior of the GETR containment building as allowed under License TR-1.

The staff appreciates GE-Hs efforts to inform NRC of planned decommissioning activities. As indicated in Mr. Turners email, Technical Specification A.2 allows the removal and disposition of components other than the reactor pressure vessel.

If you have any questions, please call me at (301) 415-6607.

Sincerely,

/RA/
