FORTHCOMING MEETING TO DISCUSS THE LICENSE RENEWAL PROCESS AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCOPING FOR CRYSTAL RIVER UNIT 3 NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION REVIEW DATE AND TIME: Thursday, April 16, 2009 (Two identical sessions)

First session: 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. (as necessary)

Second session: 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. (as necessary)

LOCATION: The Plantation Inn Resort 9301 West Fort Island Trail Crystal River, FL 34429 CATEGORY 3:* This is a Category 3 Meeting. The public is invited to participate in this meeting by providing comments and asking questions throughout the meeting.

PURPOSE: The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received a license renewal application (LRA) from Florida Power Corporation dated December 16, 2008, for the renewal of the operating license for the Crystal River Unit 3 Nuclear Generating Plant. The purpose of these meetings is for the NRC staff to describe the license renewal process, and to provide members of the public with the opportunity to provide comments regarding environmental issues the NRC should consider during its review of the LRA. PURPOSE (Contd) part of the scoping process outlined in Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR Part 51) to support development of an environmental impact statement related to the LRA. See the enclosed Agenda. The LRA is available at http://www.nrc.gov/reactors/operating/licensing/renewal/applications/crys tal-river.html and on the NRCs publicly available Agencywide Document Access and Management System (ADAMS) at ADAMS Accession Number ML090080053.

These meetings will be preceded by an informal open house beginning one hour prior to the meeting. The open house will provide members of the public with an opportunity to talk informally with NRC staff. Members of the public may register to present oral comments at the meetings by contacting Ms. Keegan, at 800-368-5642, ext. 8517, or by e-mail at elaine.keegan@nrc.gov by April 13, 2008. Those who wish to make comments may also register within 15 minutes of the start of each meeting. Individual oral comments may be limited by the time available, depending on the number of persons who register.

ACCOMMODATIONS: If special equipment or accommodations are needed to attend or present information at the public meeting, then the contacts indicated above will need to be notified no later than five days prior to the meeting, to provide the NRC staff adequate notice to determine whether the request can be accommodated.
