Dear Mr. Sena:
By letter dated August 27, 2007, FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company submitted an application pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 54 (10 CFR Part 54), to renew the operating licenses for Beaver Valley Power Station, Units 1 and 2, for review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff). The staff is reviewing the information contained in the license renewal application and has identified, in the enclosure, areas where additional information is needed to complete the review. Further requests for additional information may be issued in the future.
Items in the enclosure were discussed with Mr. Clifford I. Custer, and a mutually agreeable date for the response is within 30 days from the date of this letter. If you have any questions, please contact me at 301-415-2989 or e-mail kent.howard@nrc.gov.

ENCLOSURE BEAVER VALLEY POWER STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION In order to resolve Open Item 3.0.3.1.11-1 of the Beaver Valley Safety Evaluation Report, the staff is requesting additional information. The applicant has submitted additional information by letter dated September 8, 2008, that is currently under review by the staff. These requests for additional information (RAIs) are the result of that review.
RAI #3.0.3.1.11-1 Please provide a detailed evaluation of 5 kV Kerite power cables that are qualified for use in submerged applications for 60 years of operation at Beaver Valley Power Station (BVPS) Units 1 and 2. This evaluation should include the supporting documentation.
RAI #3.0.3.1.11-2 Please provide a vendor letter that these 5 kV HTK Kerite cables are qualified in design and construction for use in submerged applications at BVPS, Units 1 and 2.
