SUMMARY
OF THE OCTOBER 15, 2008, MEETING WITH THE LICENSEE TO DISCUSS PRE-APPLICATION ISSUES RELATED TO A FUTURE EXTENDED POWER UPRATE AMENDMENT APPLICATION (TAC NO. MD9305)
On October 15, 2008, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a Category 1 public meeting with representatives of Northern States Power Company at NRC offices located at 11545, Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of this meeting was to specifically discuss with the NRC staff the licensees proposed approach to address the three issues (steam dryer structural integrity, instrument setpoint methodology, and equipment qualification) set forth in the June 26, 2008, letter to the licensee (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML081770338). The licensee also proposed to give an update regarding grid stability analysis. A list of attendees is provided as Enclosure 1. The licensee=s handout material (Enclosure 2) has been docketed and is publicly available at Accession No. ML082890357.
The licensees presentation, depicting its approach to address the issues listed above, was outlined by the handout material. The NRC staff discussed with the licensee various aspects of the approach, but did not raise any significant technical concerns. The NRC staff did not convey any major comment on the licensees description of the upcoming application for extended power uprate.
No portion of this meeting was closed to the public because no proprietary information was used by the participants.
Before the meeting adjourned, members of the public were given the opportunity to communicate with the NRC staff both verbally and through the use of public meeting feedback forms. No comment or feedback was received at this time.
