- PERFORMANCE DISCUSSION MEETING OCONEE NUCLEAR STATION - DOCKET NOS. 50-269, 50-270 AND 50-287
Dear Mr. Baxter:
This refers to the meeting conducted at your staffs request at the Region II Office in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 21, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss events that occurred during the Unit 1 end of cycle 24 refueling outage at the Oconee Nuclear Station.
A list of attendees and a copy of your presentation handout are enclosed.
The topics discussed during the meeting included: the technical cause of the reactor coolant pump seal failures and associated corrective actions; operations/control room lessons learned and actions; and organizational lessons learned and actions. It is our opinion that this meeting was beneficial in that it provided the NRC staff with a better understanding of the corrective actions taken and/or planned to address extent of condition issues at Oconee Nuclear Station, as well as the Catawba and McGuire Nuclear Stations.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR) or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRCs document system (ADAMS).
