Dear Mr. Goyette:
On behalf of the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), I am responding to your letter dated June 20, 2008, regarding the possibility of evacuation of the area surrounding Oyster Creek. You also mentioned additional concerns, such as Oyster Creek is too old, the plants drywell liner is seriously corroded, the plant is vulnerable to attack, and the area is more heavily populated than the 1950s.
The NRC has previously addressed your emergency preparedness concerns in letters dated February 7 (Accession No. ML070190292) and April 10 (Accession No. ML070920404),
describing the NRCs and the Federal Emergency Management Agencys roles in detail. We have previously responded to your other concerns in these same letters and in letters dated October 10, 2006 (Accession No. ML062650288), June 11, 2007 (Accession No. ML071520267), and May 9, 2008 (Accession No. ML081220040).
With respect to corrosion of the drywell liner, the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) and the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board (ASLB) decisions regarding Oyster Creek License Renewal are available in ADAMS under Accession Nos. ML070390474 and ML073520402, respectively. Additionally, on March 30, 2007, the staff issued the final Safety Evaluation Report Related to the License Renewal of Oyster Creek Generating Station (Accession No. ML070890637). The plants license renewal application is before the Commission for its final decision.
