Dear Sir or Madam:

During the week of December 3, 2007, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff conducted a detailed audit of the new sump designs at Indian Point Nuclear Generating Unit Nos. 2 and 3, operated by Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. (Entergy). The audit focused on Entergys corrective actions related to NRC Generic Letter (GL) 2004-02, Potential Impact of Debris Blockage on Emergency Recirculation During Design Basis Accidents.

Pursuant to Section 2.390 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR), our initial determination is that the enclosed audit report does not contain proprietary information.

However, we will delay placing the audit report in the public document room for a period of 2 weeks from the date of this letter to provide you with the opportunity to comment on any proprietary aspects. If you believe that any information in the enclosure is proprietary, please identify such information line-by-line and define the basis pursuant to the criteria of 10 CFR 2.390. After 2 weeks, the audit report will be made publicly available after making any necessary changes to remove proprietary information.

To facilitate the NRC staff's review of your comments, please provide a marked-up copy of the audit report showing proposed changes and provide a summary table of the proposed changes.

If you have any questions, please contact me at 301-415-2901.

Sincerely,

/ra/
