NRC OPERATOR LICENSING RETAKE EXAM RESULTS (SUSQUEHANNA STEAM ELECTRIC STATION)

Dear Mr. Helsel:

The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the individual examination results for your applicants on the retake written examination conducted at your facility on May 16, 2008. This meets the intent of Section E.1 of ES-501 of NUREG 1021,Operator Licensing Examination Standards for Power Reactors.

As indicated in Enclosure 1, the completed Form ES-501-2 Power Plant Examination Results Summary, all three individuals who took the examination passed. However, we are unable to issue a license for one of the applicants at this time. I understand, based on a June 4, 2008, telephone conversation between you and Mr. John Caruso, Acting Chief, Operations Branch, that your staff has requested that the NRC delay its final licensing action regarding this applicant until additional medical information could be provided for the NRCs consideration. This information is considered proprietary in accordance with 10 CFR 2.390, and it supplements the information contained in the related examination report for your facility, which will be issued shortly.

contains the individual examination results (i.e., Form ES-303-1, Individual Examination Report) for each of the applicants. In accordance with your Systems Approach to Training (SAT) Program, we expect that you will review these results and provide appropriate remedial training for the individuals independent of the overall pass status. The applicants have authorized the release of this information to your facility by signing Block 19A of their license applications (i.e., NRC Form 398).
