June 16, 2008 Mr. Michael W. Rencheck Senior Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer Indiana Michigan Power Company Nuclear Generation Group One Cook Place Bridgman, MI 49106

SUBJECT:

DONALD C. COOK NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 (DCCNP-1 and -2) - RE:

WITHDRAWAL OF APPROVED RELIEFS (TAC NOS. MD7483 AND MD7484)

Dear Mr. Rencheck:

By letter dated November 5, 2007 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML073180456), Indiana and Michigan Power Company (I&M), the licensee for DCCNP-1 and -2, requested the withdrawal of four specific approved relief requests identified as ISIR-005 and ISIR-006 for each unit. These four reliefs were previously approved by Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff (letter from C. A. Carpenter to R. P. Powers of I&M, dated December 29, 1998; ADAMS Accession No. 9901080054).

The NRC staff acknowledges that with the approval of I&Ms risk-informed inservice inspection program (letter from T. L. Tate to M. K. Nazar, September 28, 2007; ADAMS Accession No. ML072620553), I&M no longer needed the identified reliefs for the third 10-year inservice inspection interval at DCCNP-1 and -2. The reliefs that are no longer needed pertain to the surface and volumetric examination of certain American Society of Mechanical Engineers Code, Class 2, Examination Category C-F-1, Item C5.21 piping welds in the feedwater and main steam systems. These welds will be examined based on the risk-informed inservice inspection program.

This completes the NRC staffs efforts on I&Ms November 5, 2007, letter.

Sincerely,

/RA/

Lois M. James, Chief Plant Licensing Branch III-1 Division of Operating Reactor Licensing Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Docket Nos. 50-315 and 50-316 cc: See next page
