- 3. Letter from C. A. Carpenter, NRC, to R. P. Powers, I&M, "Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant, Units 1 And 2 - Evaluation of the Third 10-Year Interval Inservice Inspection Program Plan and Associated Requests for Relief (TAC Nos. M94871 and M94872)," dated December 29, 1998.
In Reference 1, Indiana Michigan Power Company (I&M), the licensee for Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant (CNP), Units I and 2, requested approval to implement a risk-informed inservice inspection (RI-ISI) program based in part on American Society of Mechanical Engineers Code Case N-716. In Reference 2, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved I&M's request.
As noted in Reference 1, approval of the RI-ISI program eliminates the need for four relief requests (Unit I ISIR-005, Unit I ISIR-006, Unit 2 ISIR-005, and Unit 2 ISIR-006) currently approved for use in CNP's Third 10-Year Interval Inservice Inspection Program (Reference 3). These relief requests pertain to the surface and volumetric examination of feedwater and main steam pipe-to-flued head welds. The pipe-to-flued head welds in the feedwater system have not been
U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission AEP:NRC:7055-05 Page 2 selected for examination in the RI-ISI program, and the main steam system in its entirety is designated low safety significant and is not subject to non-destructive examination. Thus, I&M is withdrawing Unit 1 and Unit 2 relief requests ISIR-005 and ISIR-006.
This letter contains no new commitments.
