SUMMARY

OF THE APRIL 30, 2008, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE 2007 DRESDEN NUCLEAR POWER STATION UNITS 2 AND 3 END-OF-CYCLE PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT On April 30, 2008, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at the Grundy County Administration Building in Morris, Illinois. The meeting was between NRC Region III and Exelon Generation Company representatives to discuss the NRCs 2007 End-of-Cycle Assessment of the Dresden Nuclear Power Station Units 2 and 3 safety performance. The results of that assessment were discussed in a letter to the licensee dated March 3, 2008 (ADAMS ML080600255).

The NRC began the meeting with an overview of the NRC and the nuclear industry, the NRCs Reactor Oversight Process (ROP), and national ROP results. This was followed by a summary of the NRCs assessment of Dresden Nuclear Power Station Units 2 and 3 performance in 2007. The NRCs meeting presentation slides can be found in ADAMS at ML081220979. A list of principal meeting attendees can be found in the attached Enclosure.

The licensee then provided an oral response to the NRCs assessment. The licensee concurred with the NRC assessment that Dresden Nuclear Power Station Units 2 and 3 were operated in a manner that preserved the health and safety of the public and the environment.

At the end of the meeting, members of the public were given the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials. Members of the public asked questions that covered how releases of tritium were monitored and tracked from the Dresden Nuclear Power Station, as well as underground pipe construction and clean up efforts from a contaminated spill from 2004 and 2006.
