- Mike, We have been told by NEI that licensees who need more time to complete their GL 2008-01 3-month responses (due on April 11) should do the following:
- Call Jerry Wermiel (301-415-2896) and request the additional time for your 3 month response (no more than one additional month).
- A follow-up letter to the NRC documenting your phone call and the agreed upon date.
Since I will be out of the office the rest of this week, I wanted to make this request by e-mail instead of telephone. Can you forward this
request to Mr. Wermiel?
We (APS - Palo Verde Units 1, 2, and 3) are requesting an additional month to submit the "3-month" response to GL 2008-01 (by May 9, 2008, instead of April 11, 2008).
It had been our understanding, until a few days ago, that detailed confirmatory walkdowns to confirm previously completed walkdowns and evaluations (that will require insulation removal and must be done during outages) would be reported in the 9-month response as remaining corrective actions. However, recent clarification from Warren Lyon indicated that the NRC expects these detailed confirmatory walkdowns that will not be able to be completed within the 9-month GL 2008-01 period to be reported in a 3-month response as a proposed alternative course of action along with a with a basis for the acceptability of the alternative course of action.
Due to this recent clarification, APS is requesting an additional month to prepare and submit a 3-month GL 2008-01 response. If approved, we will document this extension in our extended 3-month submittal.
