NON-PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS TRANSITION FROM CONTRACT SECURITY FORCE TO A PROPRIETARY SECURITY FORCE
Dear Mr. Kaegi:
This letter refers to the non-public meeting conducted on January 11, 2008, at the Region III Office in Lisle, Illinois. The meeting was held to discuss the transition from a contract security force (Wackenhut Nuclear Services) to a proprietary security force (Exelon Nuclear Security, LLC.)
Ms. Anne Boland, Deputy Director - Division of Reactor Safety at NRC Region III, opened the meeting with introductions of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) officials and Exelon officials. The meeting was then turned over to your staff.
Your staffs presentation described the transition in eight broad areas: Transition Schedule; Maintaining Adequate Staffing; Strike Contingency; Workforce Outreach and Monitoring; Site Security Organization; Corporate Nuclear Security Organization; Site Implementation Team; and Transition Team. For each area, your strategy and planned actions were discussed.
Ms. Boland concluded the meeting with an acknowledgement of the information provided by Exelon representatives. She emphasized the importance of working together and maintaining focus on security during the transition process.
A listing of principal Exelon and NRC meeting attendees is enclosed in this letter.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its enclosure will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records System (PARS) component of NRC's Agencywide
