NRC NEWS U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Office of Public Affairs Telephone: 301/415-8200 Washington, D.C. 20555-0001 E-mail: opa@nrc.gov Web Site: http://www.nrc.gov No.07-098 August 1, 1007 NRC FINDS NO SIGNIFICANT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS FROM EXTENDED OPERATION OF VERMONT YANKEE NUCLEAR POWER PLANT The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued its final environmental impact statement on the proposed renewal of the operating license for the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant. The report contains the NRCs finding that there are no environmental impacts that would preclude license renewal for an additional 20 years of operation.

The Vermont Yankee plant is a boiling-water reactor located five miles south of Brattleboro, Vt. The current operating license expires March 21, 2012. The operator, Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc., submitted an application for renewal of the license Jan. 27, 2006.

As part of its environmental review of the application, the NRC held public meetings near the plant to discuss the scope of the review and the draft version of the environmental impact statement.

Comments were received and considered from members of the public, local officials, and representatives of state and federal agencies.

The Vermont Yankee Final Environmental Impact Statement is available on the NRCs Web site at this address: http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/nuregs/staff/sr1437/supplement30/.
