CALVERT CLIFFS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNIT NO. 2 - CLOSURE OF CONFIRMATORY ACTION LETTER NRR-07-014 (TAC NO. MD4140)

Dear Mr. Spina:

On March 12, 2007, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Confirmatory Action Letter (CAL) No. NRR-07-014 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management Systems [ADAMS] Accession No. ML070660040) regarding dissimilar metal welds in the pressurizer at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Unit 2. This letter acknowledges receipt of your letter dated May 30, 2007 (ADAMS Accession No. ML071520179) informing the NRC of actions taken in response to this CAL.

In your letter, you stated the Unit 2 inspection and mitigation of pressurizer dissimilar metal (DM) welds was completed on schedule during the 2007 Unit 2 refueling outage. All required Performance Demonstration Initiative ultrasonic test examinations of pressurizer DM butt welds were completed with no recordable indications. The Mechanical Stress Improvement Process['] was implemented as planned on these welds.

Based on your letter, the NRC has found that all the commitments listed in the CAL and your supporting commitment letter dated January 30, 2007 (ADAMS Accession No. ML070320127),

have been met. No further response is required regarding the CAL. We consider the CAL closed.

Thank you for informing us of the actions documented in your letter. These actions may be examined during a future NRC inspection of your facility.
