June 22, 2007 Mr. William R. Campbell, Jr.
Chief Nuclear Officer and Executive Vice President Tennessee Valley Authority 6A Lookout Place 1101 Market Street Chattanooga, TN 37402-2801
SUBJECT:
POSSIBLE COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION OF WATTS BAR NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT 2
Dear Mr. Campbell:
This letter acknowledges receipt of your letter of April 3, 2007, in which you provided a summary of key assumptions in the Tennessee Valley Authoritys assessment of the possible completion of construction of the Watts Bar Nuclear Plant (WBN), Unit 2. Your letter requested feedback from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regarding these assumptions. The NRC staff is reviewing your letter and will provide an assessment at a later date.
We plan to continue to meet with your staff to discuss expectations for your notification of resumption of construction (if that decision is made), as well as determination of a comprehensive list of outstanding licensing and inspection issues, to clearly define the scope of regulatory effort required to support WBN Unit 2 licensing.
Sincerely,
/RA/
