Update Kevin:
I wanted to update you on what I have been doing with regards to the AGN-201M.
- 1. I have reminded Dr. Reece of the need for the 50.59 review conducted at the Nuclear Science Center and I should have that material in hand after our meeting on Monday morning, April 30th.
- 2. Yesterday, I met with Dr. Maldonado regarding both the need for audits (follow-up to my earlier letter) and the other needs we have. I received her assurance that funds would be available to address the issues remaining regarding the AGN-201M.
- 3. Today I met with a number of folks regarding another emergency drill for the AGN-201M.
Those in attendance were:
Mr. Christopher M. Meyer, Assistant Vice President, ES&H Mr. Daniel I. Menchaca, Radiation Safety Office, Office of Radiation Safety Mr. Leslie Lutz, Emergency Planning Specialist, Office of Safety and Security Mr. Christopher A. Prause, Laboratory Manager, Department of Nuclear Engineering Mr. John M. Salsman, Director, Environmental Health And Safety was scheduled to attend but he had to be out of town.
We discussed conducting another full-scale emergency drill for the AGN-201M as soon as possible but certainly before the start of the fall semester. After some discussion, we agreed to the following actions:
- 1. We will review the emergency plan and bring it up-to-date. We want to make sure the plan corresponds to the current organizational structure on campus.
- 2. We will work with Mr. Lutz to prepare a scenario for the drill.
- 3. Mr. Meyer will meet with College Station officials (and other local officials) on May 1st (a regularly scheduled meeting). He will ensure that the College Station fire department can "play" on the date(s) we select. We will also use this opportunity to walk the responders through the facility to familiarize them with it. We will select target dates today and communicate these to him as soon as possible. He will also ensure that the University Police are prepared to respond.
- 4. We will also use the drill to familiarize the University police responders with the rooms and our expectations of their support.
I will keep you informed as we move toward completing this requirement and the other commitments we have made.
