Dresser, Pressure Relief Operation 1 OCFR Part 21 Interim Report, Dresser Investigation File No. 2007-02 Interim reporting of a potential defect involving Power Actuated Pressure Relief Valves supplied to Calvert Cliffs, Fort Calhoun and Oconee Nuclear Power Plants.
Gentlemen, Dresser has identified the following potential defect, which could possibly be reportable under the requirements of 10 CFR Part 21. Dresser's ongoing investigation into the situation is expected to exceed the 60 day evaluation requirements of 10CFR Part 21, Subsection 21.21 (a)(1). As a result, this interim report is submitted as notification of the potential defect and timeline for completing the evaluation as required by Subsection 21.21 (a)(2). The potential defect involves Dresser's power actuated, pilot operated pressure relief valve model 31533VX. This Part 21 investigation has been initiated based on the occurrence of four (4) events in the field resulting in the equipment's inability to perform its intended function. The Dresser 31533VX model relief valve is used for system overpressure protection and manual blowdown. This valve model is not capacity certified; therefore, no credit can be taken in the plant's overpressure protection report for the relieving capacity. Dresser's engineering and quality assurance departmentsare currently working to identify root cause of each event, and identify affected equipment. Should it be determined that a defect exists, a notification will be provided in accordance with the requirements of 1 OCFR Part 21. In order to complete a thorough evaluation, we request an additional 90 days beyond the mandated 60 day requirement dictated by 1 OCFR Part 21.

Evaluation Timeline On February 13, 2007, Dresser engineering requested the opening of a 10CFR Part 21 investigation based on four (4) events occurring in the field.
An interim letter to the NRC requesting a 90 day extension is issued on April 27, 2007.
Final evaluation and closure of Dresser 1 OCFR Part 21 File 2007-02, including any required notification to the NRC, shall be completed by Friday, July 13, 2007.
