Dear Mr. van Noordennen:
By letters dated December 4, 2006; December 14, 2006; December 19, 2006; January 4, 2007; January 5, 2007; and March 7, 2007, Yankee Atomic Electric Company (YAEC) submitted final status survey reports (FSSRs) for the following survey units:
OOL-02 Class 1, 2 and 3 open land areas in the original non-radiologically controlled area inside the security fence. It includes the former service building footprint and the area surrounding the security access building.
OOL-06 Class 2 and 3 open land areas west of the site primarily wooded but with some asphalt covered portions.
OOL-05 Class 1, 2 and 3 open land areas along the Deerfield River frontage with a portion owned by TransCanada, the operator of the hydroelectric generating station adjacent to the Yankee site.
OOL-08 Class 1, 2 and 3 open land areas along the western, south-western, and southern perimeter of the former industrial area.
OOL-01 Class 1, 2 and 3 open land areas north of the former industrial area including sediment within the Sherman Reservoir.
OOL-03 Class 1, 2 and 3 open land areas consisting of the surface area of the Sherman Dam and the south shoreline of the Sherman Reservoir which is property owned by TransCanada.
By e-mails dated January 23, 2007 and March 19, 1007, the staff forwarded requests for additional information on the subject FSSRs to YAEC. YAEC responded by e-mails dated January 24, 2007 and March 22, 2007.
Based on our review of the submitted FSSRs and the licensees response to NRC comments on the FSSRs, we have determined that the subject FSSRs are consistent with the previously approved License Termination Plan and are therefore acceptable.
