SEVERE ACCIDENT MITIGATION ALTERNATIVE REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION WOLF CREEK GENERATING STATION, UNIT 1 LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION March 20, 2007 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation held a telephone conference call on March 20, 2007, to discuss and clarify the following requests for additional information (RAIs) concerning the analysis for Severe Accident Mitigation Alternatives (SAMAs) for Wolf Creek Generating Station, Unit 1, license renewal application.

SAMA-RAI 2-d Justify the assumption in Section F.2.8 of the Environmental Report that the conditional probabilities from the original individual plant examination (IPE) can be used to obtain the non-large energy release frequency (LERF) release categories, and why this approach was used in lieu of rebinning non-LERF sequences using the IPE modular accident analysis program runs.

Discussion: Based on the discussion with the applicant, the applicant understands the request and will provide an RAI response that includes justification to the assumptions made.

SAMA-RAI 7-b Provide alternate direct current (DC) feeds (using a portable generator) to panels supplied only by DC bus.

Discussion: The staff provided clarification to the intent of the request. The applicant indicated they were clear regarding their understanding of this RAI.

Following the discussion of these 2 SAMA RAIs, the staff discussed several questions that had arisen while conducting the staffs review. However, these questions did not meet the threshold of an RAI, and therefore had not been previously provided via RAI letter to the applicant. It was agreed by both the staff and the applicant that a follow-up telecon to discuss these questions would be scheduled tentatively in early April 2007.
