March 9, 2007 The Honorable Jon S. Corzine Governor of New Jersey Trenton, New Jersey 08625
Dear Governor Corzine:
I am responding to your letter of January 16, 2007, inviting the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) to tour the Oyster Creek Generating Station and to hold its public meeting regarding the license renewal application in New Jersey. Unfortunately, the meeting arrangements and public announcement for the ACRS February Full Committee Meeting were completed prior to receiving your letter. I would like to point out however, that at the February 1, 2007 ACRS meeting in Rockville, Maryland, which was open to the public, the Committee considered comments received from Senator Frank R. Lautenberg, Senator Robert Menendez, Congressman Jim Saxton, Congressman Chris Smith, the Coalition to Stop the Relicensing of Oyster Creek, as well as the information provided by the AmerGen Energy Company, the NRC staff, and its contractor. Also, at two public ACRS License Renewal Subcommittee meetings held on October 3, 2006, and January 18, 2007, the ACRS had the benefit of discussions with members of the public concerning Oyster Creek license renewal.
Enclosed is the ACRS report to the Commission, which documents the Committees recommendations based on its review of the license renewal application for the Oyster Creek Generation Station.
If you have further questions, please contact me.
Sincerely,
/RA/
Dale E. Klein
