ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE, UNIT 1,
SUMMARY
OF THE STAFFS REVIEW OF THE REFUELING OUTAGE 19 STEAM GENERATOR TUBE PRESERVICE INSPECTION REPORT TAC NO. MD2718 DOCKET NO. 50-313 By letter dated June 14, 2006 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)
Accession No. ML061730358), Entergy Operations, Inc. (the licensee), provided the 180-day steam generator (SG) preservice inspection report for refueling outage (RFO) 19 in accordance with Technical Specification 5.6.7. The Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 1 (ANO-1), SGs were replaced during RFO 19. Additional information regarding the replacement SGs is provided in a conference call summary dated March 9, 2006 (ADAMS Accession No. ML060590367).
ANO-1 has two Enhanced Once-Through SGs manufactured by AREVA. Each SG has 15,597 thermally-treated Alloy 690 tubes with an outside diameter of 0.625 inch and a nominal wall thickness of 0.037 inch. The tubes are hydraulically expanded for the full depth of the tubesheet at each end. The tubes are supported by 15 stainless steel support plates with a broached trefoil-hole design.
The licensee provided the scope, extent, methods, and results of the ANO-1 SG tube preservice inspection in the documents referenced above. The licensee indicated that no tubes were plugged as a result of the preservice inspection.
Based on a review of the information provided, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff concludes that the licensee provided the information required by ANO-1 TSs. In addition, the NRC staff concludes that there are no technical issues that warrant follow up action at this time, since the inspections appear to be consistent with the objective of detecting potential tube degradation and the inspection results appear to be consistent with industry operating experience at similarly designed and operated units.
