NRC RECEIPT OF VERMONT YANKEE NUCLEAR POWER STATION'S RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 2006-03, POTENTIALLY NONCONFORMING HEMYC AND MT FIRE BARRIER CONFIGURATIONS (TAC NO. MD1581)
Dear Mr. Kansler:
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) acknowledges the receipt of your response, dated June 6, 2006 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) accession number ML061630231), to Generic Letter (GL) 2006-03, Potentially Nonconforming Hemyc and MT Fire Barrier Configurations. Under oath or affirmation, your response states that Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station does not rely on the Hemyc and MT fire barrier systems. Under oath and affirmation, your response also states that other fire barrier systems that separate redundant safe shutdown trains located within the same fire area have been designed and installed in accordance with current NRC guidance. Based on your response, the basis for stating that these other fire barriers have been designed and installed in accordance with current NRC guidance should be maintained on site, and will be subject to inspection during the normal NRC inspection process.
