Subject:

Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit 1 BV-1 Docket No. 50-334, License No. DPR-66 Revised Commitment Date Relevant to FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company Correspondence to the NRC, Dated September 29, 2006 On September 13, 2004, the NRC issued Generic Letter 2004-02 relating to debris blockage on emergency recirculation during design basis accidents. FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) submitted the initial response in letter L-05-146, dated September 6, 2005. Subsequently, FENOC provided a supplemental response to the NRC by letter L-06-020, dated April 3, 2006. Contained within letter L-06-020, FENOC made commitments regarding specific implementation actions supporting FENOC's

,response to the Generic Letter.

Due to vendor activities with other utilities, the completion date for prototype testing of the proposed BVPS-1 strainer design (L-06-020 Commitment Number 2) was rescheduled for December 31, 2006. The revised commitment schedule was communicated to the NRC in letter L-06-145, dated September 29, 2006.

Due to ongoing schedule delays, an evaluation is being performed to ascertain the potential impact and benefits of alternate strainer designs and manufacturers. Ultimately, this evaluation and potential change in vendors will further delay prototype testing.

FENOC is submitting a revised commitment to complete the prototype testing prior to strainer installation. Because the strainer prototype testing is included in the design activities, no specific completion date is provided. Currently, BVPS-1 strainer installation is scheduled for the fall 2007 (IR18) refueling outage. The revised commitment does not reflect a change to the final completion due date for the remaining items related to Generic Letter 2004-02.
