- CATEGORY 1 PUBLIC MEETING WITH TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY (TVA) - BROWNS FERRY UNIT 1 RECOVERY STATUS
Dear Mr. Singer:
This refers to the public meeting conducted at Calhoun Community College located near Decatur, Alabama on December 18, 2006. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the Browns Ferry Unit 1 (BF1) Restart Project status. Discussions during this meeting included the following topics: Unit 1 overview and schedule, returning systems to service, regulatory status, fire protection Appendix R, cable separations, nuclear assurance, Browns Ferry Nuclear (BFN) operational readiness, and restart readiness. Enclosure 1 contains a list of attendees. contains the Inspection Plan and Schedule Report. Enclosure 3 contains the presentation material used by your staff to discuss the status of the Browns Ferry Unit 1 Restart Project.
TVA also discussed Unit 1 fuel load status including upcoming significant milestones and delays in system turnovers. As a result of the meeting, the NRC will continue to conduct inspections to ensure that all measures applicable to restart readiness are in place prior to restart. Prior to conducting the Operational Readiness Assessment Team (ORAT) inspection, the NRC will review TVAs response to the NRCs prerequisite letter dated October 25, 2006 (ML062980431). The NRC plans to monitor recovery progress and inspect accordingly to maintain and ensure public health and safety throughout the Unit 1 recovery process.
