Dear Mayor Chilton:
I am responding to your letter dated October 12, 2006, to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Executive Director for Operations, Luis A. Reyes, regarding the resolution, A Resolution in Support of Bringing the Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant Into Compliance With the Federal Fire Safety Regulations. The resolution supports a petition for emergency enforcement action pursuant to Title 10 Code of Federal Regulations, Section 2.206 to suspend the operating license for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant submitted by the North Carolina Waste Awareness and Reduction Network, the Union of Concerned Scientists, et al. (the petitioners).
On November 6, 2006, Ms. Lisa Regner, of my staff, contacted you to discuss the intent of your letter. This letter confirms our agreement that you will be placed on distribution for related NRC correspondence with the petitioners, as opposed to you being an active petitioner in resolution of the petition.
