SUBJECT:

TURKEY POINT NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 3 AND 4 - REVISION TO REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING SCOPE OF STEAM GENERATOR TUBE INSPECTIONS WITHIN THE THICKNESS OF THE TUBE SHEET (TAC NOS. MD1380 AND MD1381)

Dear Mr. Stall:

By letter dated April 27, 2006 (ADAMS Accession No. ML061310089), Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) requested amendments to the technical specifications for Turkey Point Nuclear Plant, Units 3 and 4, concerning the scope of steam generator tube inspections within the thickness of the tubesheet. By letter dated August 22, 2006 (ML062290501), the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff forwarded a Request for Additional Information (RAI) and FPL committed to provide a response by September 30, 2006.

During a conference call on September 19, 2006, FPL informed the NRC staff of its intention to revise its amendment request to limit it to one cycle at each unit. A request for a permanent change will be submitted at a future date. Based on this information, the NRC staff informed FPL that the revised submittal should address Question 4 of the RAI. The remaining questions are withdrawn. However, the NRC staff will expect the issues raised by these questions to be addressed in the request for permanent change.

If you have any questions, please contact me at (301) 415-3974.

Sincerely,

/RA/
