KEWAUNEE POWER STATION - NRC GENERIC LETTER 2006-01: STEAM GENERATOR TUBE INTEGRITY AND ASSOCIATED TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS (TAC NO. MD0085)
On January 20, 2006, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Generic Letter (GL) 2006-01, Steam Generator [SG] Tube Integrity and Associated Technical Specifications
[TSs]. This GL was issued to request that addressees either submit a description of their program for ensuring SG tube integrity for the interval between inspections or adopt alternative TS requirements for ensuring SG tube integrity.
By letter dated February 15, 2006 (Agencywide Document Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML060460548), Dominion Energy Kewaunee, Inc., the licensee for Kewaunee Power Station (KPS), provided a response to GL 2006-01. This response indicated that an application to adopt new steam generator TSs for KPS was submitted on January 12, 2006 (ADAMS Accession No. ML060250524). The new TSs were modeled after Technical Specification Task Force (TSTF) Traveler, TSTF-449, Steam Generator Tube Integrity (ADAMS Accession No. ML051090200). The original application was supplemented by a letter dated June 2, 2006 (ADAMS Accession No. ML061560144). On July 17, 2006 (ADAMS Accession No. ML061700091), the NRC staff issued Amendment No. 188 to the KPS Facility Operating License which approved new SG TSs for KPS.
The NRC staff finds the licensees adoption of new SG TSs modeled after TSTF-449 to be an acceptable and complete response to GL 2006-01. This completes the staffs efforts on TAC No. MD0085. If you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact me at 301-415-1439.
