- S Indian Point Energy Center Status Report April 11, 2006 Operational Status - 2R17 Outage Preparations Indian Point Unit 2 is operating at 100% and has been on line 38 days. Indian Point Unit 3 is operating at 100% reactor power and has been on-line for 186 days.

Operations and maintenance crews are preparing for Indian Point Unit 2's upcoming refueling outage scheduled to begin later this month. The outage scope includes replacing about 1/3 of the fuel assemblies and full primary and secondary side inspections of the four steam generators. Entergy will also conduct the 10-year Integrated System Inspection as well as the Integrated Leak Rate Test to measure containment integrity. Routine preventive maintenance and surveillances will be conducted on a number of pumps, valves and associated piping.

Groundwater Investigation - Test Well Results MW-30 (Corrected)

As part of the groundwater investigation, Entergy installed a multi-level monitoring well in the fuel storage building. Samples have been taken from this well during the course of the investigation. MW-30 is the well closest to the IP2 spent fuel building and is an important sample location. As can be seen from the illustration below, tritium results vary by depth and also by environmental conditions at the time the sample was obtained. This monitoring well will be fitted with a permanent packer device which will allow more precise sampling from varying depths.

The 3/10 and 3/13 samples were also analyzed for gamma-emitters and Sr-90 and only tritium was identified.

All values are in pCi/L.

Entergy has also been monitoring the permanent leak collection box, which was installed in the IP2 spent fuel building over the location where the settlement crack was found. The leakage from the crack, which was measured initially at about 1.5 - 2.0 liters/day, has slowed. During the most recent 2-week period, total leakage collected was about 100 ml or less than Y2 cup. Previously, there was no leakage noted.

onn b.oSKa - II*Lu siaus repori Tor Aprii 1 I raye 3 1 Entergy is investigating possible causes and has increased collection frequency.

Status Report Available on JIC Website The Indian Point status report is now available on the new Joint Information Center web site. The web site is part of the virtual news room concept that is being developed for public emergency information.
