Follow-up Notice of Spray Pond Additive Spill of CT1300 at Limerick Generating Station

Dear Mr. Miller:
On June 23, 2006 at 07:35, a spill of approximately twenty gallons of CT1300 was observed near the Spray Pond. This incident occurred as a result of a breach in system piping during the.
injection cycle. The majority of the chemical was contained on impervious material, with a small quantity contacting approximately ten square feet of compacted gravel.
GE Betz Spectrus CT1 300 is a material used for periodic biocide treatment of Spray Pond cooled equipment. Specifically, seventy-five minute applications are made during operation of Emergency Service Water and Residual Heat Removal Service Water pumps. Typically, five to ten gallons of CT1300 is injected per cycle, depending on the system being treated.
Actions Taken on the Release:
June 23, 2006 Notification of the spill was made to the Control Room at 07:35.
The Incident Commander responded to the scene and contained the spill at 08:05.
-The Control Room declared the incident as 1 hour1.157407e-5 days <br />2.777778e-4 hours <br />1.653439e-6 weeks <br />3.805e-7 months <br /> reportable at 08:43.
The primary spill response vendor-arrived at the scene at 09:15.
A telephone report to the PADEP was made at 09:27.
Cleanup activities were completed at 14:13.
Health Risks Associated with the Release:
There were no health risks associated with the release of this biocide.
Advise on Medical Attention Necessary for Exposed Individuals:
No individuals involved in the spill activities required medical attention.
