PSEG LETTER FORWARDING THE RESULTS OF A PEER ASSESSMENT OF THE SAFETY CONSCIOUS WORK ENVIRONMENT AT SALEM AND HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATIONS
Dear Mr. Levis:
This letter acknowledges receipt of your letter dated May 4, 2006, which provided a copy of an independent peer assessment that examined the safety conscious work environment (SCWE) at the Salem and Hope Creek Generating Stations. In your letter, you described the results of your actions to improve the work environment at the stations. Furthermore, you indicated that both you and the peer assessment team concluded that substantial and sustainable progress has been made.
The NRC plans to review the effectiveness of your actions and the results during a team inspection commencing on June 12, 2006. The results of this SCWE inspection will be considered during our mid-cycle assessment in August 2006, to evaluate the substantive cross-cutting issue in SCWE and the status of the Reactor Oversight Process Deviation Memorandum.
Additionally, on May 17, 2006, the NRC will conduct a public meeting with you and your management team to provide the NRCs assessment of the safety performance at Salem and Hope Creek for calendar year 2005 and to discuss your actions to improve the SCWE.
Mr. Mel Gray of my staff has been finalizing plans for this upcoming meeting.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRC's document system (ADAMS).
