^Paae~ 1 11 I John White - FEB 24.doc Paae 1 U Enterg Indian Point Energy Center Status Report February 24, 2006 Operational Status Indian Point Unit 2 is operating at 100% and has been online 64 days.
Indian Point Unit 3 is operating at 100% reactor power and has been on-line for 143 days. Operations and maintenance crews are making plans for 2R17 refueling outage at IP2 scheduled to begin in April.
Entergy Selects Siren Vendor Entergy formally announced the selection of ATI to provide and install the new siren alert notification system for Indian Point. Founded in 1981, Acoustic Technology, Inc. (ATI) of Boston, Massachusetts has been developing hardware and software for wireless community warning systems since 1987. ATI's system is used at two other Entergy nuclear power plants where it has operated effectively and reliably.
The new siren system was prompted by communication problems with the current system and the NRC orders that require backup power for the siren. The new system will have battery backup and a control system capable of activation of individual sirens or groups, reporting siren status, and interconnecting to a common alerting protocol (CAP) server.
PFS Receives a License PFS received a license from the NRC for the constructions and operation of a spent fuel storage facility on the reservation of the Goshutes in Utah. Private Fuel Storage LLC (PFS), a consortium of eight utilities, will be allowed to store up to 40,000 metric tons of uranium at the site. The licensing process took about 8.5 years. PFS cannot begin construction until it has contracts in place with customers that cover all the operation and storage expenses.
Status Report Available on JIC Website The Indian Point status report is now available on the new Joint Information Center web site. The web site is part of the virtual news room concept that is being developed for public emergency information. Starting next week, the status report will be sent to the distribution list via the web site. The web site will also include the latest radiological release information for Indian Point.
