Paae 2 ii Indian Point Energy Center Status Report March 2, 2006 Operational Status-lP2 Returns to Service Entergy control room operators safely returned the Indian Point 2 nuclear power plant to service today after shutting down the plant yesterday when a group of control rods automatically inserted into the nuclear reactor. Control rods are used to reduce power in the reactor and shut down the plant.

Yesterdays shutdown occurred when a carpenter unintentionally bumped a switch, cutting off electrical power to 12 control rods which inserted into the reactor as designed. The reactor has 53 control rods in total that are held in place electromagnetically above the reactor. Operators inserted the remaining control rods to shut down the plant in accordance with procedures.

There was no release of radioactivity or damage to equipment.

Indian Point Unit 3 is operating at 100% reactor power and has been on-line for 149 days.

Latest Sample Results from Monitoring Wells Test results from a number of sample locations in the IP2 transformer yard and southern perimeter of the site near IP3 have been obtained.

The most recent test results from samples taken early in February are relatively unchanged from previously reported results. Tritium concentrations are highest near the IP2 spent fuel pool ranging from

-500,000 pCi/L in the spent fuel building to about 30,000 pCiVL near the discharge canal. The New York State DEC has reported low levels of Sr-90 at MW-1 1 in the transformer yard at 3 pCi/L.

Results from perimeter samples at the south end of the site show trace levels (<1000 pCVL) of tritium at MW-38 to <250 pCVL (DEC sample) at MW 48.

Samples results are summarized in the attached table.
