f No-m 2-a Indian Foint Energy Center Daily Status Report November 28, 2005 Operational Status Indian Point Unit 2 is operating at 100% and has been online 359days.

Indian Point Unit 3 is operating at 100% reactor power and has been on-line for 55 days.

Spent Fiel Pool Investigation Sample well inside IP2 Spent Fuel Building Drilled Entergy is continuing its investigation into the leak in the IP2 spent fuel pool. The company is in the process of installing nine new sampling wells on site. These sampling wells are industrial test wells; there are no drinking water wells on site.

The first of these test wells, MW-30, has been drilled and is being developed. Monitoring Well-30 is located inside the spent fuel building about 3 feet from the location where a hairline crack was identified.

The 4"-diameter well is about 60 feet deep.

The development process is consistent with New York State guidelines for well sampling.

[DEC-Guidelines and Sampling Protocols, 1991]

The development process is needed to ensure removal of fine grained sediments (fines) from the vicinity of the well screen. This allows the water to flow freely into the well, and also reduces the cloudiness of the water dLring sampling. It will take about several weeks for the well to be developed fully to meet industry standards.

In the m gantime, Entergy technicians collected a sample during what is called a Packard test, the results of which were analyzed today. The tritium concentration, though small, exceeds the EPA drinking water standard for tritium. The monitoring well water, however, poses no threat to local drinking water supplies.

These test results should be considered preliminary as the well is not fully qualified.

The NRC is continuing its special inspection on the spent fuel pool issue and is continuing conference calls to brief stakeholders.

Emergency Plan Exercise Scheduled for Nov. 30 Entergy, New York State Emergency Management Office and the four counties in the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone will conduct an emergency response exercise on November 30. The exercise will be the first time the new Joint Information Center at the DOT traffic management office in Hawthrone, N. Y w'il be used.
