Sea turtle incidental take 2005-1 at Oyster Creek Generating Stat ion4JulO5
- Sara, As I indicated in my phone message to you earlier today, a juvenile Kemps ridley sea turtle was found dead at the Oyster Creek dilution water intake at 0905hrs on July 4, 2005. It had severe slice wounds to its head &
one flipper that appeared to have been inflicted by a boat propeller. The turtle was turned over to Marine Mammal Stranding Center (MMSC), who confirmed boat propeller wounds to be the cause of death & that this turtle was dead on arrival at our facility & not a Oyster Creek causally-related mortality. MMSC will take digital photos of the turtle & take measurements which will be included in its report to NMFS. I will provide you a copy of this information when I receive it. This was the first incidental take at Oyster Creek during 2005. If you have any questions or require additional information, please give me a call at 609-971-4124.
