  • tExelon.Nuclear SuperaisoTy BrTie INFORMATION FOR SUPERVISORS NRC Accepts Oyster Creek's License Renewal Application; Reports in Newspaper Inaccurate DATE: Monday, July 25, 2005 FROM: Bud Swenson, Site Vice President INSTRUCTIONS:

Please share the following information with your employees as soon as possible.

It is your responsibility to have face-to-face conversations with your departments to ensure that the misinformation circulated in the local newspaper is dispelled.

As you know, I hand delivered the Oyster Creek license renewal application to the U.S.Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Friday, July 22. Contrary to newspaper reports, high-ranking NRC officials have told us that the application was accepted for review. After completing an electronic scan of the CD containing all 2,400 pages of the application, the NRC did ask us to fix a minor problem regarding the image resolution of five pages. Exelon and the document vendor are correcting these pages this morning, and I anticipate that the application will be returned to the NRC later today. In addition, a hardcopy of the application will be delivered to the NRC by July 29.Unfortunately, this minor technical issue has led to much embarrassment for all of us because of negative news coverage over the weekend. We are reviewing statements made in the news coverage and will respond as appropriate to any factual errors. The fact remains that, thanks to your professionalism and hard work, we submitted a high-quality application.

I remain fully confident that the application meets the strict requirements for license renewal and that the NRC will allow us to operate Oyster Creek until 2029. Thank you for your continued hard work and focus on keeping Oyster Creek running safely and event-free.
