EXTENSION FOR THE BIOLOGICAL OPINION FOR THE SAN ONOFRE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION. REFERENCE NO.

Dear Mr. McInnis:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has received your letter, dated December 1, 2005, requesting an extension for the Biological Opinion regarding continued operation of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. On July 20, 2005, the NRC and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrations (NOAAs) National Marine Fisheries Service entered a formal consultation under Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act on the possible effects of continued operation of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station.

We accept the requested extension and look forward to receiving your Biological Opinion by March 31, 2006. If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact Ms. Harriet Nash at 301-415-4100 or hln@nrc.gov.
