Re: review standard for uprates Ms. Calvert, Please see responses to your questions below:
1.) Does Entergy Vermont Yankee have to go through the NRC's apparantly new review standard?
As discussed in the NRC's letter to Entergy, dated December 15, 2003 (copy attached), the NRC staff intends to use review standard RS-001 to perform the evaluation of the 20 percent power uprate amendment request for Vermont Yankee. A draft version of the review standard was issued for public comment in December 2002 and the current Revision 0 of the standard was issued in December 2003.
The review standard is available on our website at:
http://www.nrc.pov/reactors/operatin/llicensina/power-uprates.html 2.) Has the NRC granted approval for any nuclear plant seeking a 10-20 percent power Increase?
Yes. Duane Arnold was granted approval for a 15.3 percent power increase in November 2001. Dresden 2 and 3 and Quad Cities 1 and 2 were granted approval for approximately 17 percent power increase in December 2001. Clinton was granted approval for a 20 percent power increase in April 2002 and Brunswick 1 and 2 were granted approval for a 15 percent power increase in May 2002.

Mr. McMurtray, I am a reporter with the Springfield (Mass.) Republican. My question is:
does Entergy Vermont Yankee have to go through the NRC's apparantly new review standard? Vermont Yankee applied for a 20 percent power increase a while ago, yet the review standard appears to be recently published. Has the NRC granted approval for any nuclear plant seeking a 10-20 percent power increase?
thank you for your assistance.
