SUBJECT:

Duke Energy Corporation Oconee Nuclear Station Units 1, 2 and 3 Docket Nos: 50-269, 270 and 287 Response to Request for Additional Information Regarding the February 2002 Order, Section B.5.b In a letter dated May 31, 2005, Duke Energy Corporation (Duke) submitted requested information in response to Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) guidance issued on February 25, 2005. This guidance dealt with implementing Section B.5.b of the Order for Interim Safeguards and Security Compensatory Measures issued in February 2002.

In support of the NRC review, on September 13, 2005, the Staff submitted a Request for Additional Information (RAI). Pursuant to this request, the enclosure to this letter provides Duke's response to these additional questions. It is Duke's understanding that RAI items labeled as "I" are intended as information for the Temporary Instruction, while those labeled as "S" may be used as input into the Safety Evaluation (SE). It is also Duke's understanding that we will have the opportunity to review the draft SE prior to issuance. No commitments are included in this response.

If there are any inquiries on the original response or this additional information, please contact Noel Clarkson of the Oconee Nuclear Site Regulatory Compliance Group at 864-885-3077.
