REVIEW OF SHEARON HARRIS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT UNIT 1 INSERVICE INSPECTION
SUMMARY
REPORT (TAC NO. MC6317)
Dear Mr. Scarola:
By letter dated February 15, 2005, Carolina Power and Light Company (the licensee) submitted its Inservice Inspection (ISI) Summary Report for Refueling Outage No. 12 for Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant, Unit 1. The unit is in its second 10-year ISI interval. The licensee submitted the Report in accordance with the reporting requirement specified in American Society of Mechanical Engineers Code, 1989 Edition,Section XI, Article IWA-6220(c).
The Report includes non-destructive examination of Welds Summary, Component Support and Snubber Examination Summary, Steam Generator ISI Summary, System Pressure Tests Summary, Containment Inspections Summary, and Repair and Replacement Summary.
The licensee stated that, in its testing of 27 mechanical snubbers, one was observed to have excessive noise and was replaced. In its containment inspection, a recordable condition of blistering of the coating was observed in the containment valve chambers. The coatings were removed from the affected areas, and visual and ultrasonic examinations were performed.
The results showed no significant thickness reduction. The affected surface areas were re-coated.
In its steam generator inspection, three tubes were found damaged by a loose part which had caused a small primary-to-secondary leakage. The three tubes were subsequently plugged.
Steam generator inspection results and reports are being reviewed under separate action.
This letter completes our review of the subject ISI summary report and no followup action is required.
