SUBJECT:
WATTS BAR NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT 2 USE OF ENCRYPTION SOFTWARE FOR SECURE TRANSMISSION OF SAFEGUARDS INFORMATION ADDENDUM (TAC NO. MC3210)
Dear Mr. Singer:
By letter dated May 19, 2004 (ML041420095), you requested approval to use encryption software for the transmission of Safeguards Information (SGI) for Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, Units 1, 2, and 3, Watts Bar Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2, and Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2. Specifically, you requested approval for the use of Pretty Good Protection (PGP)
Software (Enterprise, Corporate, or Personal) Desktop Version 8.0 or the latest validated version developed with PGP Software Development Kit (SDK) 3.0.3 for encryption of sensitive unclassified SGI.
This request was approved by a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) letter dated June 14, 2004 (ML042180372), for Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, Units 1, 2, and 3, Watts Bar Nuclear Plant, Unit 1, and Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2. The June 14 letter inadvertently excluded Watts Bar Nuclear Plant, Unit 2 from coverage under the original approval letter. This letter serves to correct that oversight and gives Watts Bar Nuclear Plant, Unit 2, full rights to utilize the requested software under the same provisions as the original approval letter.
We apologize if this oversight has caused you any inconvenience. If you have any questions about this material, please contact me at (301) 415-1364.
Sincerely,
/RA/
