In the Matter of ) Docket Nos. 50-327 Tennessee Valley Authority ) 50-328 SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT (SQN) - UNITS 1 AND 2 - WITHDRAWAL OF TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION (TS) CHANGE 05-05, ONE-TIME EMERGENCY TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION CHANGE FOR EMERGENCY DIESEL GENERATOR (EDG) lB-B MAINTENANCE TO EXTEND THE ALLOWED OUTAGE

Reference:

TVA letter to NRC dated June 17, 2005, Sequoyah Nuclear Plant (SQN) - Units 1 And 2 - One-Time Emergency Technical Specification Change for Emergency Diesel Generator (EDG) 1B-B Maintenance To Extend The Allowed Outage Time (AOT) - Technical Specification (TS)

Change 05-05 On June 17, 2005, (referenced letter) TVA requested an Emergency TS change to extend the AOT for the lB-B EDG. The request was based on preliminary assessment of repairs needed for returning the lB-B EDG to service following damage to the generator field flash circuitry. Due to the nature of the circuitry damage and the potential for unknown delays to return the EDG to operable status, the full repair time for the EDG had the potential to exceed the TS AOT.

At 1800 Eastern daylight time (EDT) on June 18, 2005, repairs and testing were completed and the 1B-B EDG was returned to service. Improvements to TVA's initial projection of time needed to complete the repair and testing were first conveyed to NRC staff at approximately 0900 EDT on June 18; at which time further review of the emergency TS change was placed on hold. Later on the 18th, it was confirmed that an emergency TS change would not be needed. Accordingly, TVA withdraws the subject TS change request.
