U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk Washington, D.C. 20555 Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant Docket 50-305 License No. DPR-43 Reporting Identification Symbol: XDR Extension Request For 2005 Material Status Renorts The Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant is requesting an extension to the due date for the 2005 Material Status Reports to June 30, 2005. This extension will allow for the proper characterization and documentation of a discrepancy in the isotopic content of fuel assemblies in the reactor.

Per 10 CFR 74.13(a), the material balance reports and physical inventory listing reports are due within 60 calendar days of the beginning of the physical inventory. The latest Kewaunee physical inventory started on March 21, 2005 with a Material Status Reports due date of May 20, 2005.

During preparation of the 2005 Material Status Reports an error was identified in the isotopic content calculation for a region of fuel during the previous cycle. Modifications to the TOTE program model for the current cycle corrected the error for these assemblies. The correction results in a calculated increase of Uranium-238 isotope.

Nuclear Materials Management and Safeguards System (NMMSS) and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Liaison have been contacted about this calculated increase of material and they have provided guidance for documenting the correction and submitting it to NMMSS. NMC is in the process of creating the Material Status Reports and will submit them to NMMSS by the revised due date.
