Re: LAR 02-06 Print-Ready TS page changes Mr. Thadani, There were no proposed changes to Page 3.8-28. That is why it was not included in the package I sent you on Friday, 5/14/04.
Also, I plan to call you later this morning to further discuss our already in place CPSES license basis commitments to IEEE-450-1995 (see below-these are all controlled under the 50.59 process) as well as our CPSES commitment management program that already includes our commitment to IEEE-450-1995 as well as our commitment to IEEE-450-1995 submitted with this License Amendment Request.
IEEE-450-1995 background information: CPSES updated its commitment to IEEE-450 from the 1980 version to 1995 under the 50.59 change process for both the FSAR and the TS Bases. This was done to reflect the current industry standard for battery systems maintenance, testing and replacement.
The current CPSES license basis includes:
FSAR Chapter 1, page 1 A(B) discussion of compliance with RG 1.129 Rev.1 (2178)
FSAR Chapter 3, Section 3.11 B.2, page 3.11 B discussion of environmental design qualification and testing FSAR Chapter 8, Sections 8.1.4.2, 8.3.2.1, and 8.3.2.2 - discussions of DC Power Systems TS Bases for SRs 3.8.4.1, 3.8.4.8, 3.8.6.1, 3.8.6.2, 3.8.6.3 and Table 3.8.6 all include existing references to IEEE-450-1995 Thank you, Mike Riggs 254-897-5218 "Mohan Thadani"

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 10 CFR PART 50. APPENDIX A. EXEMPTION REQUEST FOR STEAM TRAP ISOLATION VALVES ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE. UNITS 1 AND 2 By letter dated October 30, 2003, the licensee requested an exemption from the requirements of General Design Criterion (GDC) 57 for several manual containment isolation valves, which they would like to leave open during plant operation. GDC 57 states that these valves shall be either automatic, or locked closed, or capable of remote manual operation. These valves could be brought into compliance with GDC 57, while still being left open during plant operation, if the licensee installed remote-manual operators on them. Provide justification for not installing remote-manual operators on these valves, as an alternative to the requested exemption.
