SUMMARY
OF APRIL 11, 2005, CATEGORY 1 MEETING WITH ENTERGY CORPORATION, TO DISCUSS AN ALTERNATE COMPLIANCE STRATEGY FOR MEETING FIRE WRAP REQUIREMENTS IN CERTAIN PLANT AREAS On April 11, 2005, a public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives of Entergy Corporation (the licensee), at NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss an alternate compliance strategy for meeting the fire wrap requirements in certain plant areas at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS) Unit 1.
The licensee presented information on its alternative compliance strategy to meet the GGNS, Unit 1 fire wrap requirements. The presentation provided the background on the GGNS, Unit 1 re-qualification efforts for currently used Kaowool fire wrap and the compensatory measures that are currently being implemented. The licensee described a revision to its initial commitment to replace the Kaowool fire wrap with 3M Interam material. GGNS staff updated the current status of the replacement effort in the control building, containment building and auxiliary building. In its revised commitment, the licensee described the development of an alternative strategy and submission of a license amendment for NRC staff review and approval.
The NRC staff queried the Entergy Corporation about several issues. The NRC staff emphasized that the licensees submission would have to provide details regarding the methodologies, assumptions, and justifications in the licensees evaluations/analyses. The NRC staff also showed their willingness to provide further insights if requested.
The licensee indicated that the feed back from the NRC staff was very valuable and they would endeavor to provide the details in their submission.
Members of the public were in attendance. However, they did not have any questions or comments. Public Meeting Feedback forms were not received.
A list of meeting attendees is attached. The licensees slides presented at the meeting can be accessed via Agencywide Document Access and Management System Accession Number ML051020318.
