Dear Mr. Stinson:
By letters dated October 8, 2002, January 21, 2003, and December 17, 2004, Southern Nuclear Operating Company, Inc., the licensee for Farley Nuclear Plant, Unit 2, summarizing the steam generator tube inspections during the Fall 2002 refueling outage (2R15).
Upon review of this information, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff concluded that the licensee provided the information required by the Technical Specifications and that no additional follow-up was required. The NRC staffs evaluation is enclosed.

OF REVIEW BY THE OFFICE OF NUCLEAR REACTOR REGULATION RELATED TO THE STEAM GENERATOR TUBE INSPECTION REPORT FOR THE SOUTHERN NUCLEAR OPERATING COMPANY, INC.
JOSEPH M. FARLEY NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT 2 FALL 2002 REFUELING OUTAGE DOCKET NO. 50-364 By letters dated October 8, 2002, January 21, 2003, and December 17, 2004, Southern Nuclear Operating Company, the licensee, submitted information summarizing the steam generator tube inspections during the Fall 2002 refueling outage (2R15) at the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant, Unit 2. The licensee replaced the three steam generators during the Spring 2001 refueling outage (2R14) with Westinghouse model 54F steam generators. Each steam generator has 3,592 thermally treated Alloy 690 U-tubes that have a nominal outside diameter of 0.875 inches and a nominal wall thickness of 0.50 inches. The tubes are supported by stainless steel tube support plates and stainless steel anti-vibration bars.
The scope and results of the licensees inspections are contained in the documents referenced above. No tubes were plugged as a result of the licensees inspections. No primary to secondary leakage has been recorded since the steam generators were replaced in the spring of 2001. The NRC staff did request that the licensee provide additional information regarding the number and inspection of dents/dings including the ability to detect a through-wall or near through-wall flaw at these locations and general design information for the replacement steam generators. The licensees response to these questions are detailed in the December 17, 2004, letter.
Based on the review of the information provided, the NRC staff concludes that the licensee provided the information required by their technical specifications. In addition, the NRC staff concludes that there are no technical issues that warrant follow-up action at this time since the inspections appear to be consistent with the objective of detecting potential tube degradation and the inspection results appear to be consistent with industry operating experience at similarly designed and operated units.
