COOK NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff (the staff) and representatives of Indiana Michigan Power Company (I&M) held a telephone conference call on March 1, 2005, to discuss comments made by the Advisory Committee for Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) subcommittee members concerning the Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2, license renewal application (LRA). provides a listing of the meeting participants. Enclosure 2 contains a listing of the comments discussed with the applicant, including a brief description on the status of the items.

SUMMARY
DONALD C. COOK NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION March 1, 2005 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff (the staff) and representatives of Indiana Michigan Power Company (I&M) held a telephone conference call on March 1, 2005, to discuss comments made by the ACRS subcommittee at the February 9, 2005 meeting concerning the Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2, license renewal application (LRA). The following comments were discussed during the telephone conference call.
- 1. In the Buried Piping Inspection aging management program (AMP), there was an exception to the Generic Aging Lessons Learned (GALL) Report that allowed for opportunistic inspection of these components instead of inspection based on a scheduled frequency. In the proposed update to GALL, this AMP was changed such that this exception would no longer be acceptable. The revised AMP states that the licensee is to perform an inspection, which may be opportunistic, within ten years of entering the period of extended operation.
A question was raised as to whether Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant would commit to performing an inspection within ten years if an opportunistic inspection has not occurred.
Discussion: The applicant indicated that the question is clear. A formal response will be provided.
- 2. Page 4.3-13 of the LRA shows a table of the number of Reactor Coolant system design transients projected to 60 years of operation. A question was asked if the table entries for zero loss of load events was accurate.
Discussion: The applicant indicated that the question is clear. The applicant referred the staff to the Cook Nuclear Plants Updated Final Safety Analysis Report (UFSAR) Table 4.1-13, which provides a more detailed description of the component transient limits. The applicant will submit additional information if required.
