By letter dated June 7, 2004 (Reference a), Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Inc. requested an amendment to its Renewed Operating License Nos. DPR-53 and DPR-69 to incorporate the use of an alternate cooling method to function as a path for decay heat removal when in Mode 6 with the refueling pool fully flooded. By letters dated October 27, 2004, and January 4, 2005 (References b and c) you requested additional information to support your review of the amendment request. We have determined that we need to perform additional heat transfer and fluid dynamics analyses to provide the information requested in both letters. As a result, we are unable to meet your request for 60-day response. We will provide the requested information by August 31, 2005.
