Brunswick County, North Carolina' Climate & Weather Data, 2002 Climate Summary Brunswick County enjoys a mild, marine-influenced climate. During the summer, seabreeze-induced clouds normally develop in the late morning and move inland during the day. Thunderstorms are not uncommon, with an average of 9 reported storms per year causing damaging winds and/or dropping hail ranging from the diameter of pennies to golf ball size.

Records show the 11 weather hazard is hurricanes and associated wind, storm surge, and rainwater flooding.

More than $200 million in property damage has been attributed to hurricanes since 1995, which have a long-term recurrence period of about 7 years... although they come in "packs" during active decades.

Many creeks and low-lying swampy areas across the country are affected by extended periods of heavy rains, with flooding of roadways and homes the result. Hurricane rains are responsible for the worst flooding, but on average, mostly minor flooding from heavy rains occurs about 4 times annually.

During the summer, waterspouts (usually weak tornadoes over the ocean) are sighted once or twice per year.

Occasionally one comes ashore, doing minor damage. Most tornadoes in this coastal county have been recorded as FO or F1, with wind speeds less than 115 mph.
